The ZEN University Content Industry History Archive Research Center (HARC) released the first installment of its &quot;Oral History Collection&quot; on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, which contains video and transcripts of testimonies from industry leaders who have been active in various fields related to the Japanese content industry.The collection preserves valuable testimonies from the development of Japan&apos;s content industry as academic digital data, including those from Shirogumi Co., Ltd. founder Tatsuo Shimamura, who worked on the VFX for the film &quot;Godzilla-1.0,&quot; which won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards, Enix Co., Ltd. founder Yasuhiro Fukushima, who brought the Dragon Quest game series to the world, and Machiko Satonaka, known for her manga works including &quot;Aries no Otome-tachi.&quot; These collections are posted on the HARC website and in the database of the International Joint Research Center for Japanese Cultural Resources, an international joint use and research center certified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and are available for anyone to freely view as research materials.Passing on valuable testimonies on the development of Japan&apos;s content industry to the next generation as a historical assetHARC&apos;s oral history collection is an effort to leave behind for the next generation the testimonies of people who have been active in the content industry, such as games, animation, and manga, and in the fields of IT and internet culture that have created them, in the form of video and transcript materials.While Japan&apos;s content industry has contributed to improving its international cultural influence and revitalizing the economy, not only are many of the testimonies of those who have supported it behind the scenes already being lost, but there are not many objective critiques or research results based on historical facts. By making oral history available as a historical asset for social use such as research, education, and business creation, HARC hopes to pass on knowledge to the next generation of the content industry. Japan&apos;s content culture, including games, animation, and manga, not only has a cultural influence such as improving Japan&apos;s international image, but also contributes to economic revitalization, such as attracting foreign tourists to Japan due to content. On the other hand, many of the testimonies of those who have supported it behind the scenes are already being lost. In addition, there are not many objective critiques or research results based on historical facts.ZEN University HARC was launched as a history project in 2023 prior to the opening of ZEN University. Its mission is to build an archive that widely and deeply collects and preserves primary materials related to the people, things, and events that have shaped the history of the content industry, and to make them available as historical assets for social use such as research, education, and business creation.Ritsumeikan University ARC has been selected as an international joint research center for digital archives of Japanese cultural resources by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and is building a database containing more than 2.5 million pieces of data on Japanese cultural resources, such as ukiyo-e, classical books, rankings, and maps of Japan and Kyoto. <figure><img src="https://images.microcms-assets.io/assets/eef5ef75480a4509a55816e594369794/ec4d92c1872947e495114c6557d4ea43/inoue_hamamura.png" alt="" width="3218" height="1334"></figure><h2 id="hd7be13bbd4">“ヒトの証言”を記録するという 本プロジェクトの取り組みについて </h2>井上 大変意義のある取り組みだと感じています。私事になりますが、最初に所属したアニメ雑誌の編集部の同世代の仲間が近年だけで3人急逝しています。これは急がなければいけないと思いました。作家の方はインタビューを受ける機会があるので、証言が比較的残りやすい状況ですが、業界を裏側で支えてこられた方々の証言はあまり残っていません。また、歴史的事実に基づいた客観的な評論というのもまだまだ少ないですね。1963年にTVアニメ『鉄腕アトム』がスタートし、今年で60年を迎えました（2023年現在）。あれから、さまざまなアニメが生まれ、それぞれに歴史があるにもかかわらず、すでに多くの証言が失われてしまいました。マンガやアニメが世界に誇るカルチャーとなった今も、“ヒトの証言”はあまり残されていないように感じています。 浜村 ゲーム業界にも同じことが言えます。日本のゲームの歴史は約40年と、マンガやアニメに比べると日は浅いかもしれませんが、それでも日本のゲーム黎明期に活躍された方々の証言を保存することが難しい状況になってきました。例えば、アーケードゲームの場合だと、一度作った基板を別のロットに入れ替えることもあるため、時にデータが現存していないこともあります。歴史資産であるはずのゲームのハード／ソフトを全て保管している会社も少ないのが現状です。ゲーム業界の皆さんも「早く歴史としてアーカイブ化させないと」というのを常々話されています。 井上 出版社の方も同じです。当事者の目線から文献として残し、多角的に分析していくことが重要だと考えています。例えば、ひとりの作家に対して、「俺が育てた」という編集者が何人もでてくることがあります。出版社ごとに担当編集がついていますから、当然なんですね。とはいえ、作家に対するアプローチは編集者ごとに異なります。このように、幾人もの人がひとりの作家を語ることで、多角的に作家の実像が見えてくることがあります。 浜村 それはそうですね。ゲームの場合、作家や作品が注目されはじめたのは、ここ20年です。それ以前は、工業製品として認知されていました。さらに、当初はエンディングロールもありませんでしたから、誰が作ったのか外からは分かりにくい状態でした。ですから、人によって言うことが違うというのはたくさんあるんです。ただ、それら全てが貴重な証言なので、皆さまの証言を今こそ残さなければ、多角的な視点で物事が分からなくなるなと感じています。 <h2 id="hf146fb3807">日本から発信することの意義について</h2> 井上 日本式のマンガは、今や世界中で読まれるようになり、この遺伝子は世界に広まりました。しかし、現在、驚くようなスピードで海外で生まれた縦スクロール型のマンガであるウェブトゥーン市場が伸びています。日本のマンガ業界がきちんと歴史を保存しておかなければ、日本のマンガ文化が正しい歴史として世界に継承されないのではないか、という不安があります。 浜村 ゲーム業界もそうです。もともとゲームはアメリカで生まれ、日本が独自に発展させた産業です。しかし、今、日本が作ったゲームの文化が、欧米のものになりつつあります。さらに近年は、スマートフォン向けゲームが伸長し、中国や韓国で生まれたゲームのシェアが増えてきました。日本のゲームの歴史をアーカイブとして残していかないと、誇りさえなくなってしまうのではないか、と私も危惧しています。 井上 だからこそ、我々の世代が生きているうちに、業界のキーパーソン・クリエイター・技術者などへ取材を行い一次資料としてアーカイブ化し、その貴重な証言が未来の業界の発展につながればと思っています。 浜村 日本のコンテンツが世界の中に埋没しないためにも、エンタメ産業の軌跡を言葉として残しておきたいですね。 <hr> 井上 伸一郎　副所長（写真左）1959年生まれ。東京都出身。&apos;85年「月刊ニュータイプ」創刊に副編集長として参加。 &apos;87年 ㈱ザテレビジョンに入社。以後、雑誌・書籍の編集者、アニメ・実写映画のプロデューサーを歴任。 &apos;07年 ㈱角川書店 代表取締役社長、&apos;19年 ㈱KADOKAWA代表取締役副社長に就任。現在はKADOKAWAアニメ・声優アカデミーおよびKADOKAWAマンガアカデミー名誉アカデミー長。浜村 弘一　副所長（写真右）1986年、ゲーム総合誌『週刊ファミ通』創刊から携わる。『週刊ファミ通』の編集長に就任したのち、株式会社エンターブレイン 代表取締役社長、株式会社KADOKAWA 常務取締役を経て、現在は同社 デジタルエンタテインメント担当 シニアアドバイザー。一般社団法人日本eスポーツ連合理事、一般社団法人デジタルメディア協会理事、株式会社GameWith社外取締役、立命館大学映像学部客員教授を務める。
